Sermon Notes
Key Phrase (Write this down!)
“Remember what God has done, but don’t turn back—His promise is always ahead.”
Scripture Anchor
Luke 17:32 (ESV)
“Remember Lot’s wife.”
1. Remember God’s Deliverance
Exodus 14:11–12 (ESV)
“They said to Moses, ‘Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.’”
Notes:{note}#1
* Israel remembered Egypt in a distorted way.
* Remembering should lead to gratitude, not regret.
* God calls us to move forward, not back.
2. Resist the Pull of the Past
Numbers 11:4–5 (ESV)
“Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, ‘Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.’”
Notes:{note}#2
* Nostalgia made bondage look better than freedom.
* Longing for the past can rob you of God’s future.
* Don’t trade freedom for slavery disguised as comfort.
3. Reach for the Promise Ahead
Philippians 3:13–14 (ESV)
“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Notes:{note}#3
* Paul refused to be trapped by the past—failures or successes.
* The promise of God is always in front of you, never behind you.
* Faith presses forward.
**Closing Challenge**
* Lot’s wife looked back—and lost her life.
* Israel looked back—and delayed their promise.
**“Remember, but don’t turn back.”**
